International Prayer Day for Inmates

On the 26th of October 2020, Ubwite Mission House joined the global Christian community in observing International Prayer Day for the Inmates, a sacred day set aside to intercede for the countless men and women behind bars, many of whom are often forgotten by society but never forgotten by God.

A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE, REPENTANCE, AND HOPE

Inmates across the world face not only physical confinement but emotional and spiritual battles as well. Many are burdened by guilt, loneliness, abandonment, and despair. Yet, the message of the Cross extends even to the darkest of prison cells. It was with this understanding that we stood in the gap on their behalf through heartfelt prayer, worship, and reflection.

At Ubwite Mission House, we dedicated the entire day to prayer for:

  • Spiritual restoration of inmates.

  • Rehabilitation and transformation of hearts and minds.

  • Reconciliation with families and communities.

  • Justice and mercy for those wrongfully imprisoned.

  • Peace and strength for prison chaplains and correctional officers.

  • Successful reintegration of ex-inmates into society.

    TESTIMONIES OF MERCY

Our team shared moving testimonies of how God is reaching those behind bars, stories of inmates finding Christ, forgiveness, and a new sense of purpose while serving their sentences. These testimonies reminded us that no life is beyond redemption.

Some volunteers and supporters who have worked in prison ministries shared encouraging messages, reminding us that Jesus Himself declared in Matthew 25:36,

“I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

We believe that visiting can also mean praying, being spiritually present in someone’s moment of need.

    PRAYER CHAIN & WORSHIP

Throughout the day, prayer sessions were held in intervals. Children, youth, mothers, and elders at Ubwite Mission House all took turns lifting up prayers. Worship songs filled the air, creating an atmosphere of reverence and compassion. Special attention was given to specific prayer points sent in by prison chaplains we partner with, who gave us insight into the needs of inmates in local facilities.

Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering – Hebrews 13:3 (NIV)
